It has become clear in my work with Johanna, that she exceeds the expectations of a caring, compassionate and supportive birthworker. Those in her company feel safe to share and express themselves and to be vulnerable, a valuable asset particularly relevant to the postpartum period.
Johanna is flexible brings a calming presence wherever she goes... She has already become well known -amongst both fellow birth workers and new parents alike as a postpartum doula, particularly one who prides themselves on inclusivity and cultural competency. S

Johanna’s energy is warm and easygoing, but still confident and our babe took to her instantly. Not only did she soothe our baby but she was very kind in flexing to me and my comfort levels.
I’d awake to a text from her recapping any pertinent info from the night before. She would also be in touch during the week, so even if we didn’t talk much during the nights, I still felt connected to her, and had a good sense of who she is (so it didn’t feel like a stranger just coming in and out). Overall, she’s just a lovely person to trust and bring into your newborn bubble!

" Over their 3.5 years together, my children formed a special bond with Johanna. Johanna taught them to be polite, kind, inclusive and accepting, fostered independence, managed their sibling relationship, and most importantly, encouraged them to be exactly who they are.
She quickly became an integral
member of our family and we were all so lucky to have her with us for 3.5 years. It was clear to everyone who saw them how much Johanna loved my children, and how much they loved her in return "
A.P.
" Johanna has a great deal of experience and a clear passion for child and infant care ... she listens to the needs of us, the parents, and follows accordingly but also has the good judgement to improvise "

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a Post Partum Doula
and a Newborn Care Specialist?
Though Post Partum Doulas and Newborn Care Specilists are very similar,
here are alot of key differences!
A Post Partum Doula can offer a more holistic approach to support the whole family after a birth, and assist new parents as they navigate the challenges of adjusting to life with a newborn. Some practical assistance they can offer families can include laundry, meal prep, tidying, grocery shopping, pet and sibling support, and much more.
Newborn Care Specialists specialize in providing expert care and direct support to the newborn, often with a focus on sleep training and nighttime care as well as, one on one support for the baby.
While both roles help empower parents, utilize evidence based practices, and support in infant growth, as well as listen to concerns, provide encouragement, and offer a safe space for parents to share their experiences. Every Doula and NCS differ individually on what they offer, so there is never any concrete description, these are general overviews.
The main roles of a Postpartum Doula are to support and educate parents to best care for their baby, the house, and their new normal. While a Newborn Care Specialist, is more focused the care of the baby themselves, while specifically focusing on their growth and transitions.

Aren’t Post Partum Doulas & Newborn Care Specialist just a ‘Baby Nurse’?
Why is that term incorrect ?
Medical Connotation: The term "nurse" in "baby nurse" might imply that the person has medical training and qualifications, which is not the case for a doula. Nurses have specific medical education and licenses, while doulas provide non-medical support.
Legal Implications: Using the term "nurse" without proper qualifications might violate regulations and licensing requirements in some jurisdictions, as it can be seen as impersonating a licensed medical professional.
Scope of Practice: Doulas, including overnight doulas, focus on providing support to parents and families during the postpartum period. This includes tasks such as assisting with feeding, soothing the baby, and offering emotional support. They DO NOT perform medical procedures, diagnose conditions, or administer medications, as nurses would.
Clarity: Using the term "baby nurse" can lead to confusion and misunderstandings about the role of an overnight doula. It's important for families to have a clear understanding of the services they are receiving and the qualifications of the person providing those services.

How does your Interview and booking process work?
Most importantly, please complete my online intake form. Following that, I will reach out to schedule a preliminary consult via phone (video chat or phone call), then moving forward with another in depth video call, if needed.
In order to solidify your booking and reserve my time, you will have 7 DAYS from the video chat meeting to sign the contract, and deposit the 25% non-refundable retainer.
My booking Is a first come, first serve basis, so after the 7 days, my availability Is subject to change.
Why is the retainer non-refundable ?
In order to turn down other Interviews & contracts, 25% of the total contract Is due at signing, to secure my time with your family. After the contract singing, if you change your mind for some reason (daycare, family member, friend, etc) the retainer is for the time already spent.
The retainer Is NON REFUNDABLE with the only exception of a miscarriage, or death, In which the deposit will then be returned.
